POINTERS TO EYE CARE


AGE GROUP 11-20 Years.

1. Growth of eyeballs takes place till puberty. Any kind of refractive error should be corrected by correct glasses. Regular 6 monthly checkup of Glasses advised.
2. Girls can develop chronic trachoma an itchy eye condition due to use of KAJAL and eyeliner used by many teenagers.
3. While using contact lenses take care of its cleaning schedule.

AGE GROUP 4-10 Years.

1. Trauma common in this age group. Any trauma with sharp objects like bow arrow, balls should be shown to doctor. It has potency to cause loss of eyesight.
2. Young children should read in adequate light. Shadow should not fall on the book. Avoid reading in sleeping position.
3. Any symptoms of headache should not be ignored as commonly refractive error is the cause.
4. TV viewing should be done at a good distance plus with an additional light on. Never view TV in dark.
5. In between constant periods of reading try to give rest to eyes by closing them and massaging.
6. Adequate sleep is essential.

AGE GROUP 0-4Years.

1. Excess tears could be due to infection or problem with drainage. Doctor should be consulted immediately.
2. Any redness, discharge should never be ignored.
3. Avoid KAJAL.
4. TV viewing should be done at a good distance plus with an additional light on. Never view TV in dark.
5. Young boys tend to develop allergic redness. Appropriate treatment usually cures it.
6. Vitamin A deficiency manifested commonly as nightblindness or dull eyes should be immediately checked with doctor. To prevent this diet should be high in green leafy vegetables, carrots etc.
